2010 Nissan Cube Review
Jun 24, 2009 - 4:29 PM - by Administrator

Forget the Scion xB and Kia Soul, in comparison the Nissan Cube makes those cars look about as cutting edge as a Corolla. Sure on a computer screen they all look like funky economy cars, but in real life the Cube is drastically different.

Part of what makes the Cube so unique is that it is a box, but at the same time incredibly round. But what really separates the Cube from the pack is its asymmetrical design. Nissan representatives won't say for sure, but they believe the Cube is the only car in the world where the left and right sides aren't identical.

The difference isn't at first obvious, but it's actually a major part of the car. Look back towards the rear and you'll see the driver's side rear pillar is a typical painted piece of bodywork, while on the passenger side the pillar is actually "invisible." It's covered by glass, giving a unique wrap-around look to the windows.

Nissan to Build Electric Cars in the U.S.
Jun 22, 2009 - 1:08 PM - by Administrator

A U.S. government initiative that would see low-interest loans granted to automakers who build environmentally-friendly cars in the U.S. appears to have one taker - Nissan. The Japanese automaker will spend anywhere from $500 million to $1 billion to update its Smyrna, Tennessee plant to build a green car and produce lithium-ion batteries.

While no specifics have been given the environmentally-friendly car is expected to be an electric vehicle based on an existing Nissan small-car platform. That leaves either the Versa or the new third-generation Cube. Nissan is currently testing an electric powertrain in a second generation Cube.

The Smyrna, Tennessee plant will be able to produce anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 of the electric vehicles annually by 2012. Nissan will begin electric car production in Japan in late 2010, with an expected annual production of 50,000 units.

Nissan Releases Europe-Only 370Z Nürburgring Edition
Jun 04, 2009 - 9:34 AM - by Administrator

Nissan is launching a limited Europe-only Nürburgring Edition of its 370Z. But don't worry if you don't live in Europe … it's not as exciting as it sounds.

The cars are inspired by the bright yellow racers that competed at this year's Nürburgring 24 Hour race and will share the same Premium Ultimate Yellow paint. They will also get special decals, a Cobra exhaust system, a numbered plaque and 19-inch OZ wheels with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT tires, that measure 255/40/19 up front and 285/35/19 out back.

And … well … that's it.

According to CarScoop, Nissan's press release doesn't say anything about suspension modifications and the Z will continue to be powered by the standard 331hp 3.7-liter V6.

Pricing is set at $50,400 Euros ($71,700) and buyerswill also get a $215 gift card for the Nürburgring - which should buy at least a few laps.

Just 80 of the Nissan 370Z Nürburgring Edition models will be produced.

NOTE: Nissan has yet to release any photos of the 370Z Nürburgring Edition. The picture above is purely for illustrative purposes.

Fast & Furious Nissan GT-R Stolen
May 19, 2009 - 9:58 AM - by Administrator

Thieves have made off with that oh so sexy Nissan GT-R from the most recent Fast & Furious film. The car was being stored, along with several other vehicles, at a facility in Sun Valley, Los Angeles. The thieves were no doubt aware that the vehicle was inside the facility when they broke through the metal door and drove off with the car, paying no attention to the other vehicles inside. The thieves did, however, damage both a Porsche Boxster and a classic Studebaker in the process.

While looking like every SpoCom fan's wet dream, the blue R34 GT-R is actually a GT-S model that was transformed by pro driver Chris Milano over two years. Fast & Furious lead Paul Walker drove the car in the movie.

The car is estimated to be worth roughly $75,000 ("More than you can afford pal"), however, it was not insured as it was only being used for promotional purposes.

There is no word on if the police have any leads on who stole the car, but we think they should check the garage of Nicolas Cage, Mr. Gone in 60 Seconds himself. Either that, or it's currently being chopped up and sold to other Skyline owners as "overnight parts from Japan."

Nissan GT-R Sets Another Nürburgring Personal Best of 7:26.70
May 14, 2009 - 9:29 AM - by Administrator

The Nissan GT-R has once again bested it's own lap time at the famed Nürburgring Nordschleife, posting a new personal best of 7:26.70.

Unfortunately for Nissan, the new time doesn't move them up any in the fastest lap rankings, as the Corvette ZR1 still holds a lap time that is three tenth's of a second faster.

Both the 7:26.7 of the GT-R and 7:26.4 of the ZR1 are distant finishes compared too the Dodge Viper ACR record holder with a 7:22.1.

The 2010 GT-R boasts 5 more horsepower than the previous model, as well as a revised transmission, new tires and a retuned suspension. Apparently those small modifications made a difference. The GT-R first recorded a 7:38 run back in September of 2007, and then shaved nine seconds off that run with a 7:29 in April of '08. In April of this year Nissan posted a time of 7:27.56, and declared they were looking for an even better time. Now they have it.

Nissan has yet to post any official numbers for the GT-R SpecV, but with the new GT-R's lap time it is most likely the even more hard-core version of the GT-R can best the Corvette.

The ACR, however, continues to be unchallenged, due not so much for its incredible 600hp and 560 ft-lbs of torque, but because of its race car-like aerodynamics.
